Did you know that the state with the most ski areas is New York? Unsurprisingly, this competitive market has led to many abandoned ski areas as well.

Opened back in 1974, Cortina Valley was referred to as the Catskill’s Biggest Little Mountain. The ski area had 18 trails and four lifts. Being in the competitive Catskills region ultimately led to its decline, closing in 1999. It’s been abandoned since then.

This week, YouTuber Avery Zucco shared a video of his exploration of Cortina Valley. Much of the infrastructure remains in place, including the lifts. It’s a pretty jarring sight, but I wonder if it’s possible to reopen the mountain. The new owners are trying to run the land into a hotel and private home community. So you’re telling me there’s a chance
