I’m writing to you as an avid member of the skiing community with a proposition that I believe merits attention and discussion within our circles: the ski industry needs to invest in more expert-only ski areas.
Our sport thrives on the thrill of challenge and the pursuit of mastery. For many, the current landscape of ski resorts, with their necessary focus on accommodating all skill levels, leaves a gap for those seeking to push the boundaries of their abilities. The creation of ski areas dedicated to expert skiers would not only cater to this demand but would also enhance safety and enjoyment for all skiers.
Hear me out, expert-only areas provide a controlled environment where seasoned skiers can test their limits without the unpredictability of mixed-skill traffic. This segregation can reduce the occurrence of accidents that may happen when less experienced skiers inadvertently find themselves on challenging terrain.
Moreover, designing terrains that cater exclusively to high-level skiing would encourage innovation in trail design, allowing for more creative and challenging runs that fully utilize the mountain’s natural topography. This would be a draw for the elite skiing community, potentially creating hubs for the sport’s advancement.
Additionally, expert areas can serve as aspirational grounds for intermediate skiers. By creating a clear progression in skiing environments, we can inspire the next generation of skiers to develop their skills, while maintaining the inclusivity of the broader resort areas for skiers and snowboarders of all levels.
