Earlier this summer, we reported that Saskadena Six, formerly known as Suicide Six, was working on a new ski trail.

This new forty-foot-wide connector trail will improve the access between the Chair 1 & 2 terrain pods. The run was previously an unmarked trail that ski patrollers used to get between the two terrain pods. Getting from the top of Chair 1 and 2 has typically been challenging, as The Gully, which is the only way to reach Chair 2 from the summit, doesn’t have snowmaking and is closed often. It will go from the Crystal trail to the top of the Backdoor run. Snowmaking pipe is also being added to the trail, so S6 will be able to make snow on it. The plan was approved by Vermont back in October of 2022.

This week, S6 announced that the new run will be known as Duane’s Drop. This run is named after Joe Duane, the mountain’s longtime Ski Patrol Director who worked at the Vermont ski area for over 18 years. The addition is a great way to honor a person who gave so much to the Standing Mountain.

The new run is expected to open during the 2023-24 season.
