First opened in 1936, Saskadena Six has helped shape the history of North America’s ski industry. After changing its name from Suicide Six to Saskadena Six last summer, the Vermont ski area is adding to its terrain footprint.

This summer, they are adding a new forty-foot-wide connector trail that will improve the access between the Chair 1 & 2 terrain pods. It will go from the Crystal trail to the top of the Backdoor run. Snowmaking pipe is also being added to the trail, so S6 will be able to make snow on it. The plan was approved by Vermont back in October of 2022.

A guesstimate of where the new trail will be.

This video from Jonathan DeDell, who is the Head of Snowmaking at S6, shows the progress being made on the new run.

Currently, getting to the runs over at Chair 2 is accessed by going through The Gully trail. This trail doesn’t have snowmaking capabilities, so it’s only open when there’s sufficient natural snowfall. Sunlight beams directly onto The Gully as well, so this natural snowpack can melt quickly. Chair 2 isn’t open all the time, so reaching the trails over there can become a challenge.

Ultimately, this is a needed change for Saskadena Six, and I look forward to checking it out next season.
