One of the most historic chairlifts in Washington has been laid to rest. On May 17th, White Pass Ski Area announced that they had officially closed the Pigtail II chairlift for good. First opened back in 1958, the Riblet chairlift saw less action over the years, especially with the addition of the more modern Great White Express chairlift. Still, the center pole chair and the lack of a restraint bar made the ride an exhilarating experience.

As for the old chairs, they are selling 75 of them right now. They are being offered via a lottery system. People have to complete a form to show their interest and then hope that they are selected by the ski area. For the selected winners, they’ll have 24 hours to accept the chair, which will be announced on August 7th at 7 am. The victors will have to pick it up on Sunday, August 20th from 9 am until 3 pm.

The last day to enter is August 3rd at Noon PCT (i.e. tomorrow). You can enter the chair lottery here. If you miss out on the lottery, they’ll have a chair auction this fall, where 25 chairs will be available.
