I’m a big fan of historical ski documentaries. Really I’m a big fan of any ski history, no matter the form of media, but documentaries are easy to pay attention to and easy to learn from. So, when I hear of a project about the first ski expedition across Colorado, I want to try to give it some attention.
“Moving Line”, according to The Durango Herald, was started as a solo project by Cameron Wyatt back in April of 2022. It focuses on the story of Alex Drummond, Peter Vanderwall, John King and Tom Weldon, after they became the first to complete a ski expedition across the great state of Colorado.
On March 19, 1978, the four departed from Purgatory Resort and began a six week journey, passing through Silverton, Aspen, Rocky Mountain National Park, and more. 490-miles over the continental divide, a route that would help to create the Colorado Trail 10 years later.
But the documentary isn’t meant to focus just on the journey itself, adding heavy portions on Drummond, Vanderwall, King, and Weldon’s lives after.
“We are exploring the artistic side of these characters who, after their journey, went on to become successful artists. It’s kind of the origin story of their artistic expression.” – Cameron Wyatt
Cameron is now working with his brother, Turner Wyatt, to produce the film. The duo is asking for assistance in funding the film, initially seeking a goal of $20,000 on Seed&Spark. They’re now $690 beyond that goal, but the campaign doesn’t end for another several days.
