The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has officially confirmed the sighting of a mountain lion in southwest Omaha, as reported on Monday.

According to authorities, the mountain lion was captured on a home security video around 4:15 a.m. in the vicinity of I-80 and Q Street. The sighting was promptly reported to the Game and Parks Commission.

Efforts to locate the mountain lion have been ongoing, involving law enforcement and wildlife experts from both Game and Parks and the Omaha Police Department. However, as of the latest press release, the mountain lion has not been found.

In line with Game and Parks’ Mountain Lion Response Plan, if the mountain lion can be safely apprehended within a municipality, it will be killed to ensure public safety. Game and Parks is collaborating with the Omaha Police Department to handle the situation.

In case anyone encounters a mountain lion in person or captures it on video, they are urged to immediately contact the police or Game and Parks. It is essential to remember that mountain lion attacks are rare, but remaining vigilant and reporting any sightings is crucial for public safety.
