When people think of the most dangerous hiking trails in the world, there are quite a few places that come to mind. There’s Mt. Everest, the narrow Angels Landing in Utah, the Presidential Traverse in New Hampshire, among many others. There’s a new contender for one of the most dangerous.
Al Jazeera and The Korea Times report that South Korea recently opened eleven hiking trails at the demilitarized border, which is directly across from their bitter rivals: North Korea. The trails, which opened back on April 21st, are ironically themed to peace, in spite of there never being a peace agreement signed between the North and the South. The guided tours allow guests to learn about the ecological and cultural history of the border.
These trails are located in the following border cities: Ganghwa, Gimpo, Goyang, Paju, Yeoncheon, Cheorwon, Hwacheon, Yanggu, Inje, and Goseong. The city of Goseng has two of these hiking trails. The trails themselves look pretty easy, but it’s not exactly the place you want to be if tensions between North and South Korea get worse.
