Work on Loon Mountain’s South Peak Expansion 2: Electric Boogaloo is off to a quick start. Last Fall, Loon announced that South Peak will be adding new trails and lifts for beginner and intermediate skiers.
Yesterday, Loon Mountain Resort in Lincoln, New Hampshire posted its first construction update on the project. The runs have already been cleared out, which you can see when you’re skiing on the Escape Route or Cruiser trails. The parts for the new quad chairlift from Doppelmayr and the snowmaking pipes have also arrived. It’s a solid start to the project, especially considering that it’s only March.

The expansion, which will have 30+ acres of skiable terrain, will add beginner and intermediate runs to South Peak. Loon currently has a small number of easy runs, but this expansion will grow its beginner terrain by 50%. The area will also have fully automated snowmaking technology and frost-free pipes.
The terrain pod will be serviced by Doppelmayr Alpenstar quad-CLF chairlift with a loading conveyor. The five hundred vertical foot ride will bring riders to the Cruiser trail. Surface lifts will also be a part of this area, but it’s yet to be confirmed whether these will be added for the 2023-24 season or in the following years.
The expansion is also aimed at growing the South Peak Resort real estate development. So far, only 30% of the potential development over at South Peak has been fulfilled. This means that many more homes, townhomes, and condominiums will be added in the future.
Some of the additions from their master plan include an aquatic center, amphitheater, events plaza, hiking/biking trails, and tennis/pickleball courts. A new skier base village is also planned.
