Significant snowfall in Western North America means that a lot of ski resorts will be extending their season. KTVL reports that Mt. Ashland Ski Area in Oregon announced they’ll be extending their season by two weeks. Their new projected closing date is April 23rd. This is thanks to a 122-inch snowpack depth at their mid-station and summit, and a total season snowfall of 278″.
They’ve been able to surpass their all-time record visitation for a season of 106,003 visits with 106,762 visits based on their last recorded total.
Andrew Gast, who is Mt. Ashland’s General Manager, explained why they’re extending their season:
“This season has been historic in several ways. From our first day of the season, the community has supported the mountain in record numbers. We’ve had outstanding snowfall this winter, we currently have 125” of snow on the ground, and that combination of skier support and great snow coverage allows us to stay open a few weeks later. With 24 days of skiing and snowboarding left this winter, the new attendance record will be set very high and we can’t thank the community enough for coming up to the mountain.”
Various events will round out their season. The SOU Raiders Day will happen on March 25 and their annual Dummy Downhill will be on April Fool’s Day. They’re also adding an Easter Egg Hunt on April 9th.
