Back in late February, it was reported that British students who were on a ski trip were stranded in the United States. This was due to the Kancamagus Lodge, which is a hotel near Loon Mountain in New Hampshire, destroyed their passports. At the time, no explanation for the mistake was given by the Kancamagus Lodge.

WMUR reports that the hotel issued an apology on Tuesday for the mistake. What apparently happened was a person on the hotel’s management team was cleaning their office. They put numerous items in a disposal box, which were then put into a dumpster. The passports were accidentally put in there, leading to them being destroyed.

The official statement from the Kancamagus Lodge is below.

The students were eventually able to return home after obtaining emergency documents. The hotel is currently reviewing practices to make sure a situation like this doesn’t happen again. A video report from WMUR is below.
