Digging avalanche pits is a necessity for monitoring the snowpack at ski resorts across the country. We all know that.

The man who uploaded the video below, however, claims that the ski patrol at Mt. Bachelor, Oregon didn’t fill in a pit after they were done examining it.

I’m going to let you watch the whole video below before I share my opinion.

Check back in with me afterwards.

*For those that don’t feel like watching the whole video- it’s embedded to start right before his “incident”. You can then skip ahead to the 1:25 mark to hear him rant about his patrol card and military experience.*

Right off the bat, I gotta say this-

This dude, whose YouTube channel is titled 2Old Farts Powder Skiing Powder Skiing Videos’ (yes, that’s the actual name), is one grumpy old fart.

Let’s just say for the sake of argument that the ski patrol at Mt. Bachelor did in fact leave an avalanche pit exposed on an open trail, okay?

Does that action warrant this kind of response? No.

It takes a certain type of salty old white dude to start throwing around their military experience at some innocent ski patrol director.

“If I trained my Marines like that they’d all be DEAD!” is one of the funniest things I’ve heard in a looooooong time.

Ski patrollers are essential, and they’re human. Mistakes are made, and this feels like a VERY minor one in the grand scheme of things.

I’m still not 100% sure that was even an avalanche pit that caused him to fall, and even if it was- so what?

He didn’t get hurt, and the patrollers were right there. He could have simply approached them, asked them to cover the pit, and go on about his day.

I guess Millennials and Gen Z aren’t the only entitled generation, huh?
