Killington Voters Approve Plan For New Base Village

Killington Resort in Vermont is now the closest it’s ever been to getting a base village.

WCAX reports that voters in the Town of Killington approved Article Five, which is a mix of infrastructure improvements that set the stage for a new base village.

The measure allows Killington Road to be shifted from its current location and will add new municipal water lines that help purify the town’s water. These are the first steps needed to build a base village, which would be situated around the Ramshead and Snowshed base areas.

The $47 million project would be paid for by Tax Increment Financing, with the funds being generated by property taxes on future developments. Condominiums and townhomes are part of the village plans, and ski-in/out homesites are planned on being offered around Ramshead and Snowshed.

The base village would replace the lodges over at Snowshed and Ramshead with new ones. Other parts of the village would include a skier beach (eliminating the need to go under a tunnel to access the two terrain pods), shops, restaurants, galleries, a village green, and a ski plaza.

A terrain expansion is also likely, with the terrain likely being added to an area referred to as Snowshed Woods, which is another part of the real estate development. As shown in the concept picture below, a new lift to the left of the current Snowshed lifts appears to be part of it.

The developers also confirmed on the Killington Download podcast that they are also looking to replace the Snowshed Double chairlift with a faster and higher capacity lift that would connect to the K-1 base area.

Employee housing is also part of these plans. In collaboration with the Town of Killington, 70 acres off the access road were recently purchased, with the potential to build 250-300 workforce units.

Here’s what Mike Solimano, the President of Killington Resort, had to say to WCAX about the importance of getting Article Five approved:

“We think this is the next logical step in the evolution of the town. We have arguably one of the best mountains on the East Coast and people love coming here. But we don’t have a lot of great lodging options. Some of our competitors have a lot more of that. People want to really be close to the mountain, so that’s really going to help.”

Work on the water and road infrastructure could start this year.
