Steamboat Resort announced their first near week-long season extension since 1993 just a few days ago, and while they’re the only resort to make the official announcement, it seems pretty clear that, with the deep snow totals across Colorado, more in the state will likely follow.
According to 9News’ Matt Renoux, both Arapahoe Basin and Breckenridge have begun the season extension discussion, and for both of the resorts, it’s looking quite possible.

Arapahoe Basin is budgeted to stay open until June 4th, but with the right snow and conditions, an even later closure is possible. At Breckenridge, the snow total has reached over 200″, and now the resort is planning to keep the slopes open well into May.
“We’re able to do this because about 40% of our terrain is high alpine, so it makes the snow last, stick around a little bit longer. So you can ski as far into May as you’d like.” – Breckenridge communications specialist Shayna Silverman
According to SNOWPAK, Arapahoe Basin closed on June 5 in 2022 and June 6 in 2021. Way back in 2015, the resort was able to stay open until June 14. As for Breckenridge, 2022 saw a May 15 closure, while 2021 lasted until May 23. In 2019, the resort was able to keep its lifts running until May 27. Let’s hope and pray for even more snowfall this season and a not-too-warm spring! I don’t know about you, but I know I’d love to get a couple laps in on June 15 this year!
