On February 3rd, Deer Valley Resort in Park City, Utah opened the new Burns Express chairlift. It features one of the first automatically lowering restraints at a North American ski resort. This is aimed at creating a safer lift experience for beginner skiers. It replaces the old Burns lift, and it’s actually a new configuration compared to its predecessor. The old Burns lift runs alongside the Wide West trail in the beginner area, while Burns Express goes toward the terrain over at Little Baldy Peak.

The addition is a major improvement for beginner skiers and riders at Deer Valley, as it gives them additional terrain and a lift that’s near their learning area. The chairlift accesses the Gnat’s Eye trail, which is a beginner run, along with the Deer Hollow run, which leads to the Mountaineer Express.

The new chairlift was part of their $6 million capital improvement plan for their learning area. The Snowflake chairlift was refurbished and extended, making it nearby the new Burns Express chairlift. Sixty thousand cubic yards of dirt were used to regrade and widen the Wide West and Gnat’s Eye ski runs, and restructure the surface lift configuration around the beginner area.

In other Deer Valley news, their next meeting with the City Council regarding the Snow Park development is set for March 15th.

The development would add new accommodations, a large skier beach, new lifts, and more food and apres options. In addition, a new transportation and mobility hub at Snow Park will provide a simpler experience for guests when they arrive at the mountain.  We’ll keep you posted on the latest developments for the Snow Park base area plans.
