Surface lifts are a dying breed at ski resorts in North America.

Don’t get me wrong, plenty of them still exist, but resorts have been opting for chairlifts for decades now.

That’s not the case in Europe, however. Resorts across the alps still utilize rope tows, Poma lifts, and other surface lift variations to move skiers uphill.

Surface lifts are great as a simple, and typically cheaper solution, but there’s a little bit of a learning curve when it comes to beginners.
