Folks across the Northeast have been impatiently waiting for the ski season to get underway.

It hasn’t helped that our friends to the west have been enjoying record starts to their season with early openings aplenty.

But fret not my fellow east coast skiers, the season starts TODAY… in North Carolina!!!

Yes, that’s right. Sugar Mountain Resort, NC is the first ski resort open for the season on the entire eastern seaboard. Imagine that.

Sugar posted an encouraging image to their Instagram page yesterday showing their mountain blanketed in a fresh coat of manmade snow.

The caption read: “If all goes well, be here at 9 am, tomorrow. 🤞”

It appears that all did go well as Sugar announced early this morning that they’re planning on opening for the season.

The mountain will be open from 9am to 4:30pm with 2 lifts running and 6 trails open. Not too shabby for skiing in the middle of November in North Carolina, right?

Here’s hoping temps continue to cool down across the east so that the rest of us can catch up to Sugar.

You know it’s a weird season when folks in North Carolina are skiing before Vermont, New York, New Hampshire, and Maine…
