A famous Québec ski resort is trying to restore another mountain to its former glory. ICI Radio Canada reports that Le Massif is trying to buy Mont-Sainte-Anne and even made a purchase offer to its current owner: Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (RCR). Their goal would be to implement a $175 million investment plan that was proposed by Les Amis du Mont-Sainte-Anne. RCR owns various properties across the Great White North, including Kicking Horse, Kimberly, Fernie, and Stoneham Mountain.

Locals are hoping to see a change happen, as they believe that the ski resort has been neglected by RCR. One of the issues that the Resorts of the Canadian Rockies face is a lawsuit from the Québec Government. The government believes that RCR hasn’t respected their commitments regarding usage of the cross country and mountain biking trails, and wants to reclaim the outskirts of the property due to their alleged misuse and negligence of the land. This would mean that they would retake the outskirts of the mountain, but not the ski resort. Another issue is that the gondola has broken down multiple times over the past couple of years.

Some of the proposals from Les Amis du Mont-Sainte-Anne, which is a non-profit advocacy group aiming to revitalize the mountain, include replacing chairlifts, snowmaking improvements, adding summer activities, building new real estate and lodging, and adding a hiking route alongside the St. Lawrence River.

Le Massif has been going through a resurgence in recent years, thanks partially to the recent opening of a Club Med property at the ski resort. In order to finalize the transaction, they want conditional approval from the government of Québec for funding in order to make improvements. The Resorts of the Canadian Rockies has yet to respond to the offer, but Le Massif remains interested in closing the deal.
