The Voyageurs Wolf Project has shared a recently-captured video of a mama wolf and her adolescent pup foraging for blueberries in Voyageurs National Park, Minnesota.

Wolves are carnivores, but the Voyageurs Wolf Project has observed wolves eating blueberries throughout the summer. They believe that the video below is only the second time that wolves have been captured eating blueberries.

They described the video in a series of Tweets transcribed below:

“The only other footage of wolves eating blueberries, to our knowledge, is the video we posted a few years ago, which was the first video footage of this behavior.

This past summer was a bumper blueberry crop and every wolf we studied spent extensive time foraging on blueberries. Our research has shown that berries can make up to 83% of the weekly diet of wolf packs during the berry season!”
