As we reported yesterday in our post (20 Ski Areas That Should Get A Ton Of Snow This Season) Everyone from NOAA to Powderchasers is calling for La Niña conditions this winter. When La Niña conditions occur, ski resorts to the north tend to get more snowfall than ski resorts to the South.
However, this does not mean you can’t have some great days of skiing. One of the best ski days we had last season was when Team Unofficial arrived at Taos, New Mexico to 37″ of fresh blower powder. So don’t count these ski resorts out. Just be aware that during La Niña seasons, these ski areas tend to get less snowfall. That’s not us hating on these great ski hills; it’s just science.
10 Ski Areas That Could See Low Snowfall This Season Thanks To La Niña
- Angle Fire, NM
- Arizona Snow Bowl, AZ
- Big Bear, CA
- Crested Butte, CO
- Eagle Point, UT
- Lee Canyon, NV
- Monarch, CO
- Taos, NM
- Telluride, CO
- Wolf Creek, CO
So there you have it. We sincerely hope we are wrong and that all of these ski hills receive HUGE snowfalls, but if the forecast rings true it could be a subpar ski season for the Southwest ski resorts.
