Teams from Leitner-Poma have been hard at work replacing Jackson Hole Mountain Resort’s legendary Thunder Lift this offseason.

The original Thunder Lift, installed in 1994, has been a skier and rider favorite as it delivers access to some of the best terrain on the upper mountain.

The new Thunder Lift is a detachable quad that will travel nearly twice as fast as the original. Ride times have been cut down from 7 minutes to 3.6 minutes to ascend the 1,466 feet of vertical.

Jackson Hole expects construction and load testing to wrap up in October so that the lift is ready for this season.

JHMR President, Mary Kate Buckley, had this to say about the new Thunder Lift:

“The Thunder lift has been the most popular lift on the upper mountain, and it delivers access to some of the legendary terrain JHMR is known for. The new Thunder lift will dramatically cut down on skiers’ and snowboarders’ time spent waiting in line and on the lift. This substantial investment is being made to improve lift waiting times and give our guests more time on snow.”
