CBS Colorado was on the scene at Vail Mountain this week to report on the resort’s new-ish snowmaking system (their most recent update was 3 years ago).

Vail Mountain set an opening day record last year when they opened November 12th. They’re hoping to beat that by one day and open on November 11th this season.

Will they hit that goal? It all depends on mother nature, but you can bet your left ski that Vail’s state-of-the-art snowmaking operation will be ready to go when conditions allow.

Say what you want about how skiing manmade snow isn’t as good as the natural stuff. I’m still fascinated by the technology that goes into these systems.

Just getting a peak at her dashboard of the various pumps and compressors was really damn cool.

This goes out to any ski resort/ski area management team that might be reading this- please invite me out for an in-depth look at your snowmaking system. I’d love to check it out!
