Swimming is one of the best events to watch every four years when the Summer Olympics roll around. It’s exciting to watch a bunch of guys and gals who have the bodies of Greek Gods swim at ungodly speeds.
I don’t think that the Olympics necessarily need to spice up the competition, but it wouldn’t hurt.
That’s why I’m proposing that they add ‘Obstacle Swimming’, a sport that I just learned about this morning thanks to the good graces of the Twitter algorithm.
Check out the video below to see what I mean.
Obstacle course swimming looks rad. Tag a lane line puller 🤣pic.twitter.com/ZMQRnWwOeY

It seems like the sport essentially has swimmers navigate various obstacles in and out of the water while racing each other.
It’s like if you combined American Ninja Warrior with the 50m freestyle sprint. It’s cool as hell.
You can’t tell me it wouldn’t be amazing to watch freak athletes like Caeleb Dressel and Katie Ledecky fly through these courses under the bright lights of the Olympics.
A quick search on Wikipedia shows that the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris had a 200m obstacle swim as a medal event. Why can’t we bring it back?
I’d watch.
