62-year-old Stephen Bruemmer is lucky to be alive after he was attacked by a great white shark while swimming at Lover’s Point Beach in Pacific Grove, California.

Bruemmer reportedly sustained ‘significant injuries’ to his legs and stomach from the attack, but is expected to survive. He is currently recovering in a local hospital.

The story made national news as white shark numbers are dramatically increasing off the California coast as water temperatures increase.

I love to swim in the ocean, and while I know the odds of getting attacked by a shark are low, I get a little bit panicked anytime I hear about an attack. I think it’s just the fear of the unknown.

The hairs on the back of my next stand up when I think about how surfers and swimmers can be within a couple feet of a shark and have no idea. I’m going swimming in the Atlantic Ocean this weekend, and I’m admittedly going to be a little bit nervous. But, I’m an anxious SOB and there’s not much I can do about it… 😂

Here’s to hoping Bruemmer makes a full recovery.
