Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe has a new GM in what will become a busy offseason for them. The Reno Gazette Journal and the Sierra Sun met with Greg Gavrilets, who was recently announced as Mt. Rose Ski Tahoes new General Manager. He is replacing Paul Senft, who worked at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe for forty-two years.
Greg’s career in the ski industry started at age fifteen when he worked as a ski patroller at Ober Gatlinburg. Over the following years, Greg worked at the “resort’s ski school and in its marketing department, and also learned to groom and cut terrain parks.” His educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. In 2015, he was named “Top 10 under 30” by Ski Area Management Magazine. From 2016 to 2017, he was the General Manager of Paoli Peaks. From 2017 to 2020, he was the General Manager of Hidden Valley Ski Area. In 2021, he became General Manager of Attitash Mountain Resort.
His first major project will be the $7.5 million replacement of the Lakeview triple chairlift with the Lakeview Express. This high-speed quad, built by Leitner-Poma, will only take less than four minutes to reach its destination. The top terminal will go further up the mountain than its predecessor and will have a new trail: Lakeside. This beginner trail will connect to Around the World. Meanwhile, Upper and Lower Lakeside will be renamed Bunker and Lone Tree. The old Lakeview triple will be going to Dodge Ridge.
Their future expansion, the Atoma project, will add 112 skiable acres to the resort. The terrain pod will feature eleven trails, a new lift, and a skier bridge over Mt. Rose Highway. This project has been delayed in order to complete the new Lakeview Express, but it remains a priority for Mt. Rose in the coming years.
