Backcountry Access is voluntarily recalling a “small number” of their Tracker4 transceivers due to a switch plastics production issue.

The issue could lead to the switch falling off of the Tracker4 transceivers which would prevent the user from being able, “…to turn the transceiver on and off, preventing the ability to transmit or search for a discoverable electronic signal in the event of an avalanche.”

Here are the details to identify if your transceiver is part of the recall:

“Consumers should immediately stop using any Tracker4 avalanche transceivers with serial numbers that start with 21H05 or 21H06. To determine if a unit is affected, look for the serial number inside the battery door. If the serial number begins with 21H05 or 21H06, BCA will replace it with a new unit at no cost. To register for a free replacement unit, complete the Tracker4 Recall Replacement Form.”

Backcountry Access claims that no incidents have been reported of the Tracker4 switch failure leading to, “…fatality, injury, or other damage”

To all of those folks with Tracker4s out there- Please, please, please, please, PLEASE check the serial number of your transceiver.

Read below for the full details of the recall of the Tracker4 from Backcountry Access.

Backcountry Access (BCA), in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada, is issuing a voluntary recall of a small number of Tracker4 avalanche transceivers due to a switch plastics production issue.

This issue impacts certain Tracker4 beacons with serial numbers that start with 21H05 or 21H06 sold after June 1, 2021. The affected units may have been purchased as a part of a Tracker4 rescue package or as a standalone unit.

The reason for the recall is a switch plastics production issue that may result in the switch falling off the transceiver. If this occurs, the user would not be able to turn the transceiver on and off, preventing the ability to transmit or search for a discoverable electronic signal in the event of an avalanche. There have been no reported incidents in which the Tracker4 switch issue has contributed to a fatality, injury, or other damage.

Consumers should immediately stop using any Tracker4 avalanche transceivers with serial numbers that start with 21H05 or 21H06. To determine if a unit is affected, look for the serial number inside the battery door. If the serial number begins with 21H05 or 21H06, BCA will replace it with a new unit at no cost. To register for a free replacement unit, complete the Tracker4 Recall Replacement Form.
