Cheers to Lake Placid’s hometown hero and two-time Olympic medalist in Alpine Skiing, Andrew Weibrecht, who completed his first ever biathlon event at the US Biathlon National Championship races at Mt. Van Hoevenberg March 26, 2022. Says something about character an elite athlete is willing to test their mettle in a different sport. Easy to understand why the folks in Lake Placid love this dude so much:
“First ski race of the season, albeit in a very different format than I’m used to. Thanks to US Biathlon Team for letting me jump in and give it a shot (or many missed shots, resulting in many penalty laps). It’s always fun to get a first hand perspective on how difficult the other Olympic ski sports are (unlimited respect to those of you who can do it well). A huge thank you to my personal coach Andrea Henkel Burke your expertise allowed me to absorb seasons of learning in a single day (5 out of 5 if you’re looking to spread your biathalon wings and learn to fly). Finally, Tim Burke, the world agrees you need to do an alpine race that at least makes your legs tired.”
