Sand affected the skies of France, Algeria, Austria and others

It’s not entirely uncommon for an African dust storm to travel as far north as the European continent. It’s happened before, and it just happened again over the last couple of days.

The dust has spread as far north as London, and cities across Europe are reporting poor air quality from the dust that originated in the Saharan Desert.

Eerie photos and videos are emerging from ski resorts across the Pyrenees and Alps of the dust settling on the snow-covered slopes. The result looks like something out of the movie Dune.
