There are some crazy ski resort expansion plans out there, but I think Big White Ski Resort proposal in British Columbia may take the cake. Last January, the resort released a sixty-year master plan that features endless expansions on the horizon. The plans would add ten new terrain pods, which will feature almost two hundred more trails, twenty-two more lifts, and adding nearly 3900 hectares of skiable acres. Various trails will be added for other winter sports: Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, cross-country mountain biking, and snowmobiles. Their summer activities would also increase, with “significantly expanded mountain biking trail system, two golf courses and an alpine coaster” being part of the proposals. 6800 additional beds would be added to meet rising demand. You can view their master development plan interactive map here. The black lines are lifts that are currently in place, while the red lines and highlighted areas in purple, orange, and green are the potential expansions.

According to the Revelstoke Review, multiple investors so far this year have announced various real estate projects. There is the $60 million Black Forest Residences, which will be a “ski-in, ski-out 200-unit residential development at the base of Black Forest.” Then there’s the $58 million dollars Blackhawk and Wild Wood which will consist of the following: “Blackhawk will be home to 16 townhomes and Wild Wood of 24 lots, for either single-family homes or duplexes, with homes starting at $900,000.” Image Credits: Big White Ski Resort
