Somewear Labs and Protect Our Winters Partner on Backcountry Giveaway

Donations will enable POW to ensure deep snow for future generations

San Francisco, CA (January 23, 2022) — Somewear Labs, a leader in off-grid satellite communications, is proud to partner with Protect our Winters (POW) to host the Backcountry Giveaway. The lucky grand prize winner will receive a guided, human-powered backcountry adventure for two and a Somewear Global Hotspot to help them navigate and communicate in the backcountry. Second and third place winners will receive cutting edge gear to recreate responsibly this season.

All contributions raised during the giveaway will be donated to support POW in its work to combat the global climate crisis and to protect winter recreation for generations to come. The Backcountry Giveaway will open on Instagram and will run from January 23, to January 29, 2022. Winners will be announced on January 31, 2022.

Since the launch of the Somewear Global Hotspot in 2017, winter backcountry adventurers have come to rely on it’s power and reliability to communicate off-grid and navigate with confidence. These same adventurers count on the return of cold, snowy winters each year for quality recreational opportunities to explore, have fun and disconnect from their daily lives. Somewear Labs recognizes the outstanding work of POW to advance non-partisan policies that combat the negative effects of climate change on winter recreation. The brand hopes the Backcountry Giveaway will generate $5,000 for POW while raising awareness for their impactful work. “We designed our Global Hotspot to enhance the backcountry experience for skiers and riders,” commented Jonathan Besquin, Marketing Lead for Somewear Labs. “but it’s hard to support and protect avid backcountry skiers, splitboarders, and mountaineers if winters cease to exist. POW’s work is critical in ensuring that winters and deep snow will be around for future generations. We’re honored to host this giveaway on their behalf” Besquin continued.

For POW, partnerships like the Backcountry Giveaway are an important resource for building momentum with key stakeholders. “Our mission is to help passionate outdoor people protect the places and lifestyles they love from climate change,” stated POW Executive Director, Mario Molina. “Every time someone elects to donate, it’s an endorsement and an urging that we take very seriously—to keep toiling on solutions to preserve the shared outdoor experience we love and to create a better planet for all.”

Joining Somewear Labs and POW in the Backcountry Giveaway are a list of like minded partners that have contributed goods and services for epic prizes. Three lucky winners, chosen at random, will receive the following:

First: A guided, human-powered backcountry expedition for two from 57 Hours (http://www.57hours.com), Somewear Global Hotspot with Ultralight data plan from Somewear Labs (http://www.somewearlabs.com)

Second: Two onX Backcountry premium subscriptions (https://www.onxmaps.com/backcountry/app), GoPro Hero 9 camera with backpack and 3-way mount

Third: Vssl flask and $80 Reserve Bar gift card courtesy of Tincup Whiskey (https://www.tincupwhiskey.com/), A pair of the new TGR Optics courtesy of Teton Gravity Research
