From January 16th to January 23rd, the Aspen Gay Ski Week is in full swing. The celebration is host to parties, costume contests, drag shows, and much more, bringing in 5000+ people for the events. The week exists as a fundraiser for the nonprofit AspenOUT, which seeks to support the LGBTQIA+ community through scholarships, grants, and more.

The event officially began in 1977, but first started in 1975 when tourists and locals in the gay community began meeting up to party in Aspen. It’s important, however, to recognize that Aspen Gay Ski Week isn’t just an excuse to party, but is a chance to educate and celebrate acceptance.

Last year, because of COVID-19, Aspen Gay Ski Week was reduced to a few virtual events. This year, the event is completely sold out, so if you’re reading this hoping to join the celebration, you may be out of luck.

With the X Games and Aspen Gay Ski Week occurring at the same time, two drag queens, Bob the Drag Queen and Monét X Change will be providing commentary for the competition, as well.

The silent auction, which is one of the larger fundraisers for AspenOUT throughout the week, can be accessed here, and information regarding tickets and more can be found on the Aspen Gay Ski Week website.
