We all know the name Candide Thovex these days. He’s the GOAT. The best. The number 1. The big chief. The flying Frenchman. The undeniable best skier in the entire world.

But, back in 2007, Candide’s career nearly came to an end. His crash on the Big Bertha jump at the Candide Invitational was brutal. He broke his back, his knee, both hands, and lost consciousness. Doctors warned that he might never ski again.

The video below is a spectator’s view of the horrific crash. This could have been the end of Candide’s career, but some might say it was the turning point. Candide has launched himself into stardom over the last 14 years.

Hard to believe after watching this crash. His flat landing on that big of a hit must have felt like landing on concrete. See for yourself:
