Ice climbing is no joke. The sport can be extremely dangerous, and the video below is probably all the proof you’ll ever need to back that statement up.
The video was shot in Switzerland, and it shows an ice climber preparing to start a route up a massive ice flow in a canyon. He digs in a couple of swings of his ice pick, and then *BAM*, the ice flow releases with him swinging on it.
Looks like he wasn’t hurt, thankfully, but that seemed sketchy as hell. I bet there’s some ice climbers that will say, “This happens all of the time. It’s no big deal.”, and that’s exactly why I don’t really have any intentions of trying out ice climbing at any point in my future… Sorry, not sorry.
