This is truly the stuff nightmares are made of. Marine Anne Hjelle and her friend Debbie Nichols headed out for an after-work rip on her local mountain bike trails south of Los Angeles. When descending, Anne was ambushed by a mountain lion and knocked off her bike.

A struggle ensued as the mountain lion latched on to Anne causing serious damage to her head. The cat went for Anne’s neck as Debbie tried to pull her out of harm’s way. Eventually, the lion clamped down on Anne’s neck and she blacked out. Two additional riders came across the scene in the nick of time and threw rocks at the lion and chased it off.

Anne was incredibly lucky to survive. The video dives into the damage she sustained to her face and how doctors were able to piece her back together.
