The ‘Plates for Powder’ program in California and Nevada allows you to support the Tahoe Fund through your vehicle registration. Purchasing a custom “Protect Lake Tahoe” license plate for $50 (California) will help fund various projects across the Lake Tahoe Basin including environmental projects, improving recreation, and restoring the clarity of the lake.

In addition, purchasing one of these license plates gets you a free lift ticket at Palisades Tahoe, Heavenly, Kirkwood, Northstar, Mount Rose Ski Tahoe, and Diamond Peak. Of course, there could be some fine print to consider, but this is pretty rad.

The Tahoe Fund is a fantastic nonprofit that seeks to help raise funding for public projects in the Lake Tahoe Basin. According to their website, the organization aims to ‘bridge the funding gap’ by securing private money to fund public projects. Some of the current projects include restoring trails that were damaged by the Caldor Fire, helping fund an amphitheater on Spooner Summit, and enhancing the Taylor Creek Visitor Center near Emerald Bay.
