Massanutten Resort in Virginia is celebrating its 50th birthday this year and has big plans for this season, and for the future. This season, the mountain will debut a new advanced run under Chair Five, various snowmaking upgrades, an expanded beginner area with a new magic carpet and snowmaking, RFID gates for accessing the lifts, a new Owners lounge, a renovated exterior of the lodge, Mid-Mountain Grill,  and the ski patrol room. Various events and promotions will happen during the season to commemorate fifty years, including daily lift ticket giveaways.

In the following years, new trails will be added to the mountain. In 2022, an intermediate and double black diamond trail will be added to Lift Six. In 2023, a new detachable chairlift will replace Chair Six, and a new double black diamond trail under that liftline will open. In 2024, two intermediate trails will be added, which entails “two additional ‘More Difficult’ trails, with one connecting Paradice to Mass Transit and another new trail off of lift 5.” It’s exciting to see all these new lift and trail projects around the country develop so quickly, and I imagine Virginia skiers and riders will be stoked about these new and future additions.
