For many of us, the term ‘grandma’ might conjure up images of fresh-baked cookies and knitting. This is not the case with Barbara Prymakowska, a 78-year old woman from Poland who has been racking up accolades in endurance running.

According to an article in The First News, Prymakowsa recently took home the gold medal in the World Masters Mountain Running Championships. In addition, she just won the 60+ category in a race up an approximately 6,500+ foot peak. Yes, she beat a bunch of racers up to 18-years younger than her. Some of her other achievements include running a handful of the world’s most famous marathons.

You might think Prymakowsa is a lifelong endurance athlete, but she didn’t complete her first marathon until she was 58. After getting hooked on endurance running she began competing in cross country ski racing.

Next time you see a senior citizen, don’t go judging a book by its cover. They might be faster than you.
