Camper vans have exploded in popularity in recent years. Unless you have been living under a rock, you have certainly noticed a seismic uptick in these conversion vans at trailheads, ski resort parking lots…basically everywhere. While it is easy to understand and appreciate the utility and popularity of the Ford Transit, Ram Promaster, or Mercedes Benz Sprinter, it can be fun to look back at an old classic. After all, they “don’t make ’em like they used to.”

Enter the Toyota Townace in all of its glory. Granted, it is certainly not a full-size van like a Sprinter. That said, what it lacks in size, it makes up for with its retro style, small wheelbase, and bulletproof motor. It was available in a 4-wheel drive diesel version with a manual transmission.

These vans were never widely available in the USA, but they are definitely floating around. This puppy only has approximately 60,000 miles and is available in Tennesee. If you are into this sort of thing, the similar Mitsubishi Delica is generally a little easier to find.  Bust out that checkbook.
