“Unfortunately we had a heavy contact by an object in the water at a planned touch and go during the Scalaria Air Challenge.”

Thankfully no one was injured during what was described as a heavy landing at the Scalaria Air Challenge 2015 air show in Salzkammergut, Austria. Seaplane International reports the vintage WW2 era Dornier Do-24ATT flying boat came in contact an object in the water during a planned touch and go. The object was thought to be a tree trunk from a heavy storm a few hours prior:

“Because there was a heavy storm a couple of hours before, we think it might have been a tree trunk. Another one has hit a motorboat only minutes before.”

The seaplane did full 270 degree “ground loop” after impact but still stayed upright. Wild.
