Red Lodge Mountain announced via social media that the resort will not open today due to sustained high winds.

The National Weather Service is calling for 36 to 41 mph sustained winds throughout the day with gusts over 60 mph at Red Lodge.

Pretty easy to understand why they couldn’t spin lifts today.

Red Lodge isn’t the only resort to be affected by high winds over the last few days.

Mt. Baker Ski Area in Washington was forced to close the mountain yesterday due to extreme winds and blustering snow.

Check out this video of a snow report Mt. Baker posted to Facebook yesterday. Sounds like he’s in the middle of a wintry hurricane! 😆
