Realvail.com is reporting that an argument between an off-duty Vail Resorts employee and an on-duty employee over the wearing of a facemask ended with an arrest.

The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. on Friday in the Chair 6 lift line at Vail’s Golden Peak area. The off-duty employee, William Laufenburg, 26, of Avon claimed to have a gun after he was asked to pull up his facemask.

“We got a 911 call reporting that a man had just threatened that he had a gun over an argument over mask wearing,” Vail Police Commander Ryan Kenney told RealVail.com. “It didn’t quite happen that way. As he walked by the guy who asked him to pull up his mask, he had just said, ‘I have a gun,’ and he kept walking. He didn’t threaten anybody. Nothing happened.”

Vail Police handcuffed and removed Laufenburg from the area and ultimately gave him a summons for disorderly conduct for his comment which caused a disturbance in what was reported to be a very long lift line.

No gun was found on Laufenburg’s person.
