The AP is reporting that Forrest Fenn has died at age 90. Fenn, an antiquities dealer and author, was the man behind Fenn’s treasure.

Fenn’s Treasure: It was ten years ago that Fenn claimed to have hidden a treasure chest filled with gold, jewels and other valuables somewhere in the American west. His goal was to tempt people to get into the wilderness and give them a chance to launch an old-fashioned adventure and expedition for riches.

Over the years, thousands of people searched remote corners of the Rockies for the riches. Some even died in the search for the hidden treasure.

Then just a few months ago Fenn announced his treasure had supposedly been found in Wyoming by someone he didn’t name.

Fenn spent nearly two decades in the Air Force, including his decorated service as a fighter pilot in Vietnam.

Police confirmed Fenn died Monday of natural causes at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
