“No doubt, next ski season will be more of an old school experience, but that could also translate to less noise, fewer distractions and, hopefully, more meaning.”

Aspen Skiing Co. CEO Mike Kaplan wrote a letter to passholders to give them an idea of what to expect during the upcoming ski season in the midst of a global pandemic. In the letter Kaplan acknowledged some of the new procedures would be “annoying” but things like decreased uphill capacity of chairlifts and gondolas would foster “more of an old school experience, but that could also translate to less noise, fewer distractions and, hopefully, more meaning.”

The Aspen Times reports Kaplan assured company officials are doing everything possible to anticipate how to open on time and stay open all winter but made crystal clear their decisions will be guided by public health experts:

“But to the handful who say we should operate as normal and ignore our public health professionals, I want to be clear: We will only go back to business as usual at the ski areas and in our restaurants and hotels when the science and health experts give us the unanimous ‘all clear.’ Until then, we’ll be serious and vigilant about keeping one another safe. Just like in skiing, we each must take responsibility for our own safety and avoid endangering others. If we can all own our roles and live them, I know we will open on time and remain open as long as the snow allows.”
