Tons of couples have had to cancel their nuptials in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic but one Connecticut venue is hoping to salvage some wedding reservations by promoting the “micro-wedding” option with no more than 50 guests.

“We have moved and or canceled over 50 weddings already. It is tragic. Look, a lot of these brides and grooms have planned these things over a two-year period.”-Sean Hayes CEO of Powder Ridge Mountain Park & Resort

Wedding reservations in the next few weeks have all been canceled at Powder Ridge Ski Resort  and couples who have rescheduled to few months out are already experiencing apprehension from friends and family about attending:

“They’re getting a lot of feedback from their guests that they’re still not going to be comfortable coming.”

Hayes decided to rethink his approach to weddings and is proposing more intimate gatherings to reluctant customers. Micro-weddings at Powder Ridge  would still include a full-service ceremony at the mountain top, followed by a cocktail hour and reception. Time will tell how customers respond.
Hosting weddings is actually big business for tons of smaller resorts during the summer months and we hope safe and equitable resolutions can be met to save this offshoot of the ski industry.
