“Thank goodness for these guys!! Bloody legends. Protecting the Pass.” -Didj Mick Hopkins

An Australian ski resort got some much needed air support to combat the bushfires that have engulfed the country. Didj Mick Hopkins, a groomer/snowmaker at Charlotte Pass Ski Resort in New South Wales, pointed his phone skyward and caught a plane dropping a payload of fire retardant on his home mountain.

In doing a bit of background for this post I also discovered resorts across the country have actually fired up their snowguns and have been blasting water onto bone dry ski slopes to help prevent the spread of fires.

“They have turned all the snowmakers on, so that’s stopped the ember attacks.” Stephen Turner of Aneeki Ski Lodge
