Thankfully no one was injured when a gondola cabin detached from a haul rope and crashed to the ground near the Swiss town of Schwyz.  The empty gondola was downbound when it fell 60 feet and smashed into pieces.

The lift was immediately closed, and approximately 50 people in other gondolas were brought safely into the stations.

The Doppelmayr gondola was built in 2014. An investigation will be undertaken by the Swiss Transportation Safety Board.
