A 9 foot tall unpermitted statue erected to honor skier Ben Geiger by friends and family has found a permanent home after the forest service requested it be removed from Snowbasin.  The DIY memorial took months to create and participants weren’t concerned with doing it by the books (which under the circumstances is understandable).  Ben’s dad put it like this:

“The emotion behind it was now. The emotion of how I feel right now would be gone in three years.”

Luckily Powder Mountain stepped in and was happy to provide a new home to the statue which weighed in at over 1000lbs and required an airlift for transfer. If you ski Powder Mountain make sure to give a salute to Ben and remember his spirit:
