Zermatt was hit by a surprise flood on Wednesday. The Triftbach river burst its banks due to was is being reported as an “eruption of a glacier pocket.”

The “glacier pocket” is an underground lake, which empties suddenly and uncontrollably. The eruption also spewed a lot of sand and stone.

Thankfully no one was injured in the flooding.
