Every now and again a story comes out of southern California that makes us realize– it’s not all beaches and flower children down there.

According to Marine Animal Rescue, a dolphin was recently shot to death off Manhattan Beach. Officials ultimately took the gunned down aquatic mammal to a nearby animal rehab center. There the bullet was ultimately removed. It’s unclear what caliber claimed the life of said dolphin.

“While upsetting, is important to share. It shows a dolphin we found dead on Manhattan Beach, California. Upon rescue and examination, Dr. Palmer found that the dolphin died from a bullet wound.

There is NO excuse for such brutality against these beautiful animals.

We are offering a $5,000.00 reward for information leading to the conviction of the person that shot the dolphin. Your help is appreciated.”

Interfering with dolphins in the wild is highly illegal in in addition to a possible fine, prison time could also be on the table. The gunman likely shot the animal from a boat.
