Turn and burn | Photo: Schweitzer | Cover: Volkl

Ski season is rapidly approaching. Snow is falling in parts of North America and resorts are beginning to fire up their snowguns. It won’t be long until we are riding chairlifts and sliding on snow– Thanks be to Ullr!

But most likely, our early season laps at the resort won’t include pow until sometime mid-December. So instead of sliding uncontrollably on skis that are over 110mm underfoot, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite frontside chargers for the 18/19 season. Here we go…

1. Blizzard Brahma

Price: $649.95Lengths: 166 cm, 173 cm, 180 cm, 187 cm | Dimensions: 127-88-11 | Radius: 17 meters @180 cm

The Blizzard Brahma is a slick frontside ski. These planks have camber underfoot with some early rise rocker in the tips and a bit of low rocker in the tail. Two layers of Titanal will allow you to drive these skis hard and lay down some serious trenches on the groomed stuff.

2. Volkl Kendo

Price: $649.00 | Lengths: 163 cm, 170 cm, 177 cm, 184 cm | Dimensions: 127-90-110 | Radius: 20.8 meters @177cm

The Kendo is a mean, vertical sidewall ski that offers excellent power transmission and stiffness. Novice and lighter skiers beware, these skis require technical expertise. Reinforced with Titanal, these heavy metal sticks aren’t made for ski touring. They’re made for balls-to-the-wall groomer shredding.

3. Nordica Enforcer 93

Price: $649.95 | Lengths: 169 cm, 177 cm, 185 cm, 193 cm | Dimensions: 126-93-114 | Radius: 16.6 meters @ 177 cm

The Nordica Enforcer 93 is a good option for the western skier who wants something that can ski shallow powder without sacrificing performance on hard snow. This is one of the best options for the taller, heavier skier who doesn’t want their groomer planks to ‘ski short’.

4. Atomic Vantage 90 TI

Price: $599.99 | Lengths: 161 cm, 169 cm, 176 cm, 184 cm | Dimensions: 127.5-90-114 @ 176 cm | Radius: 18.4 meters @ 176 cm

Our favorite for east coast ski conditions, the Atomic Vantage 90 TI is made for hard snow. The titanal layering creates a stiff ski that loves to make medium radius turns. Beware, this ski does not excel in the soft stuff whatsoever.

5. Liberty V92

Price: $799.00 | Lengths: 172 cm, 179 cm, 186 cm | Dimensions: 133-92-110 @ 179 cm | Radius: 17.5-meters @ 179 cm

The Liberty V92 is another great option for the west coaster who likes to drag buckles once in a while. True to its design, this ski is ski-race inspired and does best with shorter radius turns.
